Hi Folks,
Great to have the list back!
So this morning I climb into my cube, strap on my computer, and turn on the
Real Audio to CBC 2, and get set to start typing the day away, and all of a
sudden, "The cows in the moo yard are making their plans..." I think to
myself, "I've heard this, and I'm absolutely certain it shouldn't be on CBC
Radio 2, on a classical show." So the announcer comes on and proclaims that
he is in the middle of a set of compositions about winter on the plains.
He'd started with "The Plow That Broke The Plains", by a composer I didn't
write down, the John Gorka song, and followed it up with Verdi's MacBeth
Overture (I think). He made the connection, he said, between Gorka's "cold
winter hands" and MacBeth's "milk of human kindness". I had to laugh. And
wonder what any of my former radio employers might have done had I followed
"Grand Canyon Suite" by Groffe with Steve Goodman's "Grand Canyon Song".
(You know, "...see what this river has done....")
I've been chuckling to myself all day because of it. A great radio moment,
by an announcer who obviously has great taste and a sense of humor. Made my
day, it did, so I thought I'd share.
Thanks for listening!
