re: George Turman's post:
Subject: [FM] Awards
<< What a ridiculous waste of time they all are! How do you judge art
anyway, and what qualifies a judge.......personal taste is a big part of
it I suspect. The difference between what is great and what is crap is
,and always should be, in the eyes of the beholder....Who else can
honestly say? Cudos to all who pursue their craft. They all get awards
from me... BY THE MILLIONS.. and I ain't no judge. If the purpose of
awards is to direct attention to certain artists as opposed to others, I
suggest they should all be done away with. And for best song
ever........................you decide. Forget the envelope ..PLEASE! >>
I apologize for my ignorance, but are you a performing artist,
George? I understand/agree with your points, but it could be
that you're missing a side of the story inasfar as this particular
question.

[Alan sez: It is certain that these awards boost artist credibility and newsworthiness in the minds of the media and some who follow the media. I'm all for anything that helps the overall visibility of the music scene in the cacophony of information that we are all plastered with. I know that I won't enjoy many of the award winning artists and will often feel that I know someone more deserving, but the very fact that these awards exist often turns me on to new music that I haven't heard. At least then I can decide if I like it or not.]
