Is there any register/list of house concerts?

[Alan sez: I'm often asked this. There are several, but all are incomplete. I've recently done some updating to the house concert page (and many of the business pages) on folkmusic.org
http://www.folkmusic.org/shows/houseconcerts.html
There is a link on the bottom of that page to HouseConcerts.com.
The best place to search is probably on Musi-Cal. There is a house concert keyword in the keywords field and you can also search venue and event name fields for that string. Folk Alliance just shipped their new folk directory at the International Conference in Cleveland. I think it costs $35 for members and $50 for nonmembers. I don't know if it's mentioned on the website at http://www.folk.org.
The house concert phenomenon is a very regional thing. They are virtually impossible for musicians to book site unseen as most house concert presenters get into it because there are very specific performers that they want to bring to their town so that their friends can hear them. Musi-Cal is a good way to promote them, but most house concert promotion is done via word of mouth, email, snail mail, and direct contact with folks locally who can come enjoy the shows.
I'm happy to add all the house concerts I hear of to the list at folkmusic.org. I've actually had to remove a number of active ones because the presenters got sick of being badgered for gigs by musicians and they asked me just to take them off.
hope this helps.]
