Just wanted to remind you all (at least those within striking distance
of Southeastern Massachusetts) that the New Bedford Summerfest is
coming soon with a fantastic lineup and an unbelievably low admission
price.
Details are at http://www.ultranet.com/~koro.
Friday July 7 features a concert from 5:30 to 9 with Jess Klein,
Susan Werner and Cheryl Wheeler. (This will be preceded by a
showcase of local singer songwriters.)

The festival coincides with the reopening of the New Bedford Whaling
Museum, newly expanded and renovated to house the enormous skeleton of the
blue
whale that washed ashore near here a few years ago. Admission to the
festival includes museum admission.
There'll be crafts, tall ships, whaleboat races, fireworks,
fresh fried scallops and fish, and carnival rides, too!
Admission is a measly $5 ($3 in advance!) for the whole
weekend and parking is free! It's an urban festival, so
there's no camping and seating is limited. New Bedford has
a severe shortage of hotels/motels, but within a half hour
drive there should be plenty - try Fall River, Taunton,
Middleboro, Seekonk, Swansea, Somerset, etc.
New Bedford is barely over an hour's drive south from Boston
and about half an hour east of Providence. The workshop
stages are in the cobblestoned historic district, which became
a National Park two or three years ago. The main stage is
on the State Pier, which is a working dock for fishing boats.
Stop by the Water Street Stage, where I'll be sharing the
hosting duties with WUMB DJ Marilyn Rea-Beyer, and say "hi".
