I just finished reading Rachel's post on the Ripton, VT concert series, and
I want to second the raves about Barb Phaneuf.  I had the chance to hear her
showcase and actually play a couple of swing tunes with her two years ago at
NERFA, and was very impressed.  She's a tremendous talent; someone I'd drive
a long way to go hear.  Anyone know who handles her booking?

I was also very interested to hear how the Ripton concerts were organized,
with an open mike, a feature, and an after-hours jam.  I'm trying to get a
series going here in Northern VA, and am looking to build audience, so I
have a question for the list membership:  Would you be more or less likely
to spend $8 to $12 on the price of admission if there were a lead-off open
mike session?  What about an after-the-show song circle/jam/picking session?
