Darryl Pupose at the Tin Angel in Philly
By Linda Steffen
Sunday night, March 26th, singer/songwriter, Darryl Purpose opened for
that benevolent spirit, Vance Gilbert at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia. It
was Darryl's first time playing in Philly. The audience warmed up to Darryl
Purpose's delightful life stories put to music. He aptly impressed everyone
with his opener, "Koreatown." Then he moved on to the romantic "Mr.
Schwinn," and the clever "Singer/Songwriter Heaven." He enticed the audience
with his between song banter about his travels. Folks got to learn more
about Darryl's past as a blackjack player with the songs "Halfway Home" and
the griping tune "Dangerous Game." In fact, Darryl Purpose was loved so much
by the Tin Angel patrons, they cheered for an encore! A fan had requested
the "Last Great Kiss Of The 20th Century" to be sung and Darryl honored it
happily. I am glad that he left us with "Last Great Kiss" in our memories.
It is a sentimental song that always makes me smile when I hear it.
The Tin Angel Acoustic Cafe is a wonderful place for an artist to have his
first gig in Philadelphia. It was a very enjoyable evening. Darryl
Purpose's vocals were outstanding, along with his poetic lyrics and
impressive guitar playing. I'm sure he'll be back to the City of Brotherly
Love soon.
Thanks,
Linda Steffen
