Last night I saw Jorma Kaukonen in Buffalo NY. As expected he did a great
show that included many of his standards. Definite crowd pleasers were
"Genesis" and the traditional blues numbers he does so well like "Death Have
No Mercy," "San Francisco Bay Blues," and "Candyman."

The unexpected surprise of the evening was the opening act.....Lori B of San
Francisco (by way of Ithaca, NY and New York City). The crowd came to hear
Jorma, but Lori B won them over with her set. This woman is an original and
defies classifications or comparisons. She took the stage with her wild mop
of red hair, undersized guitar, and a brilliant smile. I wanted to like her
music before I even heard her. After explaining that she was born shortly
after hurricane Hazel, she opened with "Hurricane Child", the title song of
her CD. She did a couple of songs from what she called her Shakespeare
Collection - "Romeo Come Home" and "To Be or Not to Be." She chatted between
songs, played a tiny piano, and performed what she called her lying and
cheating songs. She closed the set with a moving song dedicated to her
mother, "Is that You". If you're lucky enough to live near Syracuse or
Albany, NY or Winooski, VT then catch her show - she's heading your way.
Otherwise go to her web site to hear some clips http://songs.com/LoriB
