First, of course, we should introduce kids to *all* music, not just
stuff aimed at them. They might not understand all of it, but it's the
same thing as taking them out to eat: much better to take them to nice
restaurants with good food (even if they only eat a burger and fries at
first). So we need to keep an open mind about what is "for" kids.
Having said that, let me second the mention of anything by Cathy Fink
and Marcy Marxer. Great music for anyone, even if aimed directly at
kids.
Another favorite is Martin Swinger (aka Martin Swinger, Folk Singer), a
performer from Maine who specializes in school visits. Can't remember
the name of his latest CD because I gave it to my niece, but it's well
worth a listen. It aims at and above kids, with several excellent adult
pieces.
This niece, soon to be seven, enjoys all kinds of music, especially folk
music. She's been attending folk concerts since she was six weeks old
and especially loves Eddie From Ohio.
