I have the new Waterbug sampler CD, and it's great!
First of all, I just love a good sampler for the same reasons I love a good
short story anthology: Not only does it expose you to new artists, or
perhaps unfamiliar songs/stories by new artists, but if put together
artfully, you start to feel connections between songs or styles or themes you
never might have noticed otherwise. I.e., it's not just a bunch of music
slapped together with no rhyme or reason, but a thoughtful collection that
takes you on a journey; you can appreciate the journey, then stop to examine
the individual steps that took you there.
This CD is such a collection. And what's cool is, you can look up the
artists later on the waterbug.com website to learn more about them and their
music.
Disclaimer: I do know Andrew Calhoun and a number of artists on the CD,
whose music I admire. I realize how priviliged I've been to have heard many
of them perform live. I'm merely writing to recommend it for anyone who
appreciates good music, a diversity of artists, and an uplifting feeling.
