Hello Friends! We are still smiling after the terrific concert on Saturday
with Catie Curtis and David Goldfinger. We are following that show with
one likely to be just as exciting: The fabulous Barbara Kessler with very
special guest, L.A. rocker Bob Malone will be performing at Fox Run on
Saturday, January 27th. Since both of these performers are friends, and it
is hard to write about friends without gushing, here is a little
information along with their websites. We have already sold lots of seats,
so please tell us if you are interested.
Barbara Kessler: Each of Barbara's 3 albums has consistently met with
wider critical and audience acclaim. Songs from these albums have been
included on more than a dozen noteworthy compilations such as Putumayo's
"Women's Work," Time-Warner's "Grooves Magazine", and Black Wolf's "This Is
Boston, Not Austin." Recorded live in an intimate Cambridge club, her 1995
debut "Stranger To This Land" won a Boston Music Award, the Kerrville New
Folk Award, and the National Academy of Songwriter's Female Acoustic Artist
of the Year Award. She was then discovered at CB's Gallery in New York
City by legendary rock drummer Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel, Paul
McCartney, et al.) who signed up on the spot as producer for Barbara's
follow-up album, "Notion."
Her recent self-titled third CD came about after a three and a half year
hiatus to give birth to daughter Emelia, as well to have some unexpected
surgery on her vocal cords. Produced by guitarist Adam Steinberg ("I met
him when he was working with Patty Griffin -- he's also done brilliant work
with the Dixie Chicks, Laurie Sargent, and Les Sampou among lots of other
stuff...")....Barbara feels that this album is her most fun and
"that's-how-I-meant-it-to-sound" work to date. The Boston Globe says, "On
her pop-catchy, folk-smart new CD, she wanders between intimate reflection
and wry, girlish reminiscence, sung in an airy voice brimming with
personality."

Bob Malone: "Spiritual, cynical, songwriter, Crescent City influenced,
heir to the legacy of Professor Longhair and Dr. John...astute, funny, and
real." This description of Bob Malone from a recent review seems to say it
best about an artist that has never been easy to pin down. From his
beginnings growing up in New Jersey, taking classical piano lessons and
pounding out Billy Joel songs when his piano teacher wasn't around, to his
days studying jazz piano and arranging at the Berklee College Of Music, to
his current status as a critically acclaimed world-touring recording
artist, there has never been a box or a category quite big enough to hold
Bob Malone.
In 1995 Malone was awarded Best Male Artist at the Boston Acoustic
Underground and for the past four years has been voted one of the Best 100
Unsigned Artists in L.A. by Music Connection Magazine who also named his
CD, "Bob Malone," one of the Top 10 CDs of the Year 1998. He was also the
recipient of the Best New Artist Award at the 1996 Falcon Ridge Folk
Festival, was featured in the Acoustic Café Best 5 Unsigned Artists in
America show, and was a 2-time finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival.
