Dear Friends:
First of all, many apologies for the cross-posting. I wanted this to
reach as many people in the folk community as possible, for reasons I
hope will be obvious.
It has come to my attention that a new radio program has replaced
"FolkScene" on KPFK in Los Angeles, and that it has been hosted, at
least once---and may be hosted again in the future---by a gentleman
named Mark Humphrey.
I am *not* that person.
I do not now, nor have I ever, hosted a radio program of any kind. More
importantly, I am a longtime friend of Roz and Howard Larman. I have
been an opponent of their ouster from the KPFK airwaves and continue to
support their cause.
The person who has appeared on the Sunday night program on KPFK and I,
in addition to sharing a name which is spelled almost identically (my
last name has an "s" at the end; his doesn't) are both members of the
greater folk community, have both issued independently-released CDs
which have been played on folk radio and reviewed in the same folk
journals and both belong to the Folk Alliance. We have, as you may have
guessed, been confused for the other in the past, and I particularly
wanted to avoid such confusion in this instance.
That Mr. Humphrey has chosen to appear on KPFK is his own business, and
this message is not intended to comment on his actions in any way. In
fact, he and I were once introduced to each other by the Larmans, and in
the few times we have made contact he has been nothing short of gracious
and generous, particularly in showing good humor toward the confusion
over our names. I have even linked his website from my record company's
website. It is not my intention to do anything here other than to
clarify that it is he, and not me, who has appeared, and may appear
again, on KPFK.
Thanks for reading---
Sincerely,
Mark Humphreys
