Kasey Chambers and Mark Erelli played at The Point in Bryn Mawr, PA Thursday
nite, and here's what I saw and heard: Kasey's amazing - the VOICE. Not the
most original, not the most powerful, and she's not Judy Garland,
but-------her voice has a quality that is solid & distinctive, and it carries
emotion. The rest of the package is her lyrics, and that makes the package
complete. A new song - I think it's entitled "Chase" - about unrequited lust
- it's deep, and it's brave. Kasey has that brave quality that Mary Chapin
Carpenter and others have - heart on the sleeve. She covers love, and she
also covers Lucinda with "Change the Locks". And then this: her band
includes her Dad. Now --- I'm used to being older than many, if not most, of
the performers I see, but in this case, I'm older that the Dad, too. In the
space of a few songs, Kasey solo singing is in close touch with her audience,
and she can also rock. She's comfortable on stage, and she's just starting
out. Catch her!
Mark Erelli also has a VOICE that stands out - it's strong, emotional, and it
carries a feeling. Mark's also distinguished by entertaining patter, between
and during songs. He has just the right mix of songs that touch deeply, and
songs that just want you to laugh along. Catch him, too!
