I got a lot out of Robin Hoff's recent postings, and would love to see more
like that on this list. I agree that Bill Parsons and Eric Weinberg are a
very enjoyable duo, and I'm not just saying that because Bill is helping me
get the Red Rover Concert Series off the ground!
My latest discovery: Bruce Piephoff from Greensboro NC. I shared the stage
with him in Williamsburg VA. The event was hosted by Ron Fetner, a sweet
balladeer, and included Bill Gurley, a fine fiddler who also plays banjo,
guitar, and writes old-timey sounding songs. But I found myself drawn to
Bruce, who will write songs about anything. Here's some titles from his
current release, Fringeland: "A Hobo He Don't Like No Snow", "I'm Big in
Slovenia", "Christmas at the Laundromat", "Electric Stool at Bible School"
and "Fire Fix on Fun Street". And he sings them all in a deadpan John
Hartford kinda way, picks pretty good and of course plays mouth harp.
Bruce told me he's currently working in a play, but might be available for
folk gigs in the summer and fall. Book him! <bpeiphoff@aol.com>
