American roots music is enjoying a grand revival as millions discover that old-time country, blues, folk and bluegrass sound better than anything they're hearing on their radio. The Sisters Folk Festival, scheduled for September 6-8, 2002, in Sisters, Oregon, carries on the traditions of American roots music, from blues to bluegrass.
Headliners include The Nashville Bluegrass Band, blues virtuoso Chris Smither, The Waybacks, Austin phenomenon Slaid Cleaves, and Misty River.
Main performances will be held in a tent on Sisters' Village Green. Musicians will also entertain in other venues throughout town and food and craft vendors will be on hand to peddle their wares in an open-air market setting.
The festival features a songwriting contest that has boosted the careers of some of the region's emerging talent, including last year's winner Bob Hillman, who recently toured with Suzanne Vega.
Visitors can participate in a variety of workshops covering every aspect of roots music, from writing to picking techniques and introductions to new instruments.
