Sisters Folk Festival Americana Songwriting Academy
The Sisters Folk Festival is sponsoring an intensive songwriting academy
September 3-5 at Caldera, the premiere performing arts camp on Blue Lake west
of Sisters.
The comprehensive songwriting academy features world-class instruction at an
inspirational setting, and tremendous musical/educational workshops in Central
Oregon. Topics will include: The craft of songwriting; performance; guitar
construction and anatomy by Breedlove guitar, Ragtime and swing guitar, a
historical perspective of Americana music; guitar playing and accompaniment; and
the business of songwriting.
The workshop is designed for writers, musicians and songwriters of all ages who
are interested in lifelong learning, how to write better lyrics and prose, and
for those interested in the preservation of acoustic American music traditions.
Instructors include nationally recognized songwriters Steve Seskin, (1999
Country Music Song of the Year Finalist), Tom Prasada-Rao, Don Conoscenti, and
Chuck McCabe.
Classes will be one and a half to two hours long, and will be conducted over
three days. Each teacher will provide instruction on songwriting, and one other
elective yet to be determined.
There is a limit of 40 participants, which will give a 1-11 teacher/student
ratio. Four students and one educator from the Sisters School District will
receive a scholarship.
Tuition for the academy is $250, which includes instruction, materials, camping
(provided in teepees), food, open mic opportunities and professional
performances.
For an additional $40, participants may purchase a three-day all-event badge for
the Sisters Folk Festival held September 6-8 in Sisters. Participants are
responsible for their own accommodations during the festival.
The Americana Song Academy is sponsored by: Breedlove Guitar Co., ELIXIR
Strings, and the Sisters Folk Festival. Additional continuing education credit
will be available through Central Oregon Community College.
