This excellent American Roots Music book goes along with the PBS special of
the same name that was on TV last season. It's fun to play one of the
episodes and read the chapter from the book...liz in MA

> American Roots Music - a new oversized book with great photos, tells the story
> of folk, blues, country, gospel, Cajun, Zydeco, Tejano, Native American, et
> al, in a straight-forward journalistic style. If you know everything that
> this book has to tell, you'll want to read it anyway. And if you want to
> learn a few new things about the roots of our music, you can't go wrong by
> reading this book. The way a song can bring tears to your eyes - the small
> stories here - they can do the same. The book is sentimental, of course, but
> that's allowed. Son House, Mississippi John Hurt, Muddy Waters meet Joni
> Mitchell, Guy Davis and Bonnie Raitt (who wrote the Foreward). I guess the
> most interesting things about American Roots Music for me is the way the music

> was (almost) to documentaries. I recommend it. It's a bit expensive at
> $49.50, but in the true folk tradition, my copy comes from the local public
> library, from where it will be circulated to others.
