Vocal Folkus Music is pleased to announce the next show in their house
concert series - great acoustic music in an intimate, smoke-free
environment. We will be presenting California folk artist amilia k
spicer on Saturday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. We are located in North
Raleigh.

When I announced this concert during our June show, Terri Allard, the
June artist, grinned and exclaimed "trouble" when I mentioned amilia's
name. amilia sings well-crafted songs, accompanied by her ever-present
keyboard, in a lilting style that in a way betrays her Pennsylvania
origins. She will fool you into thinking she's just another
middle-of-the-road folk singer and then "BANG" she'll hit you with a
rocker that leaves you wondering "where did THAT come from?"

amilia's first CD, "Like an Engine" has received wide acclaim in the
songwriting community, and she is about to release her second
recording. She and several other artists also just finished recording a
tribute CD in honor of Brian Wilson's 60th birthday ("Making God Smile"
due in record stores July 30).

Please join us in welcoming amilia to our home. Reservations can be
made for this show by emailing us at "gallica@bellsouth.net," or by
calling (919) 539-1417.

Please note that our home will hold only about 50-55 friends, so reserve
a seat early if you expect to attend. Donations of $10 per person and
$5 for attentive children under 12, will be collected at the door. As
you may know, the artist gets the entire gate. Light refreshments will
be provided - please feel free to bring along your own goodies.

Directions will be sent via email a few days in advance of the show to
those with confirmed reservations.

Other shows coming up in the Raleigh/Durham area during the next few
weeks:

<http://www.bettpadgett.com/> or (919) 787-6378, 8 p.m., $10.

Steve West operates a fine house concert series known as Swift Creek
House Concerts in Cary. Steve's presently on hiatus looking for a
venue. Contact him at 919-696-1075 or <slntplanet@aol.com> for info on

In addition to Groovelily, David Sardinha has a number of excellent folk
and country artists, including Claire Holley, Jimmy Landry and
Johnsmith, Eliot Bronson, Chuck Pyle, and Hurdle Mills, NC's own lovely
and talented Kim Buchanan, scheduled throughout the month of July at the
Six String Cafe and Music Hall, McGregor Village, Cary - check out his
calendar at <http://www.sixstringcafe.com/index_nn4.html> for dates and
times. (Food's great here too, AND you can wash it down with a Harp's
or Bass or Red Hook or something similar.)

And if you like your music more on the twangy side, check out
<http://www.guitartown.org/calend.htm> for the Guitartown calendar -
tons of shows too numerous to mention here.
