It's time to put Stan Rogers in the CANADIAN MUSIC HALL of FAME.
GEIST Magazine, in its 47th issue, has launched a campaign to honour Stan
Rogers, the great Canadian folk singer, by sponsoring his admission to the
Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Rogers's songs, which include "Barrett's
Privateers," "Northwest Passage," and "The Mary Ellen Carter," are etched in
the Canadian consciousness. Stan Rogers was a pioneer of independent music,
and helped start Canada's Celtic music revival. He belongs in the Hall of
Fame and GEIST is asking its readers to help put him there.
All Canadians are invited to sign a petition in support of Stan Rogers for
the Hall of Fame at www.geist.com/stanrogers <www.geist.com/stanrogers> .
After they've signed, supporters can follow the Contest link to send in a
favourite Stan Rogers musical memory. Entrants could win CDs, books and free
subscriptions, and may even appear in the next issue of Geist!
Please forward this message to friends and help gather support for this
campaign. Geist will present the petition to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame
in time for the Juno Awards this spring.
"Stan Rogers is a unique artist, whose art and presence personified an
entire country, and lifted the abstract notion of 'Canadian culture' to the
highest levels of art. "
