Happy New Year to all our music friends!

Dont miss this one! We are thrilled to have our Vocal Folkus year open
with one of our favorite people, Stephanie Corby. Stephanies rich,
powerful voice transcends the borders of musical style. This soulful
songstress has successfully fused her classical, jazz and blues
backgrounds into a distinct R&B-flavored acoustic sound.
Singer/Songwriter Ellis Paul says the following about Stephanie's voice:
"she has the kind of voice that makes the waters part; loud sweet and
soulful..she could have saved Moses a lot of trouble."

Born in Ashburnham, MA, Stephanie began singing and playing music at the
age of eight. The oldest of four sisters, she received her vocal lessons
from her mother and her first guitar lessons from her father. Throughout
high school and college Stephanie concentrated her studies on classical
and jazz vocal technique. Performing in prestigious collegiate classical
vocal ensembles as a soloist she acquired her first taste for the stage.
All the while, she would jump at any opportunity to "rip out an Aretha
tune" or throw herself into a gut-wrenching blues classic.

Upon graduating from the University of Massachusetts in 1990, it was
apparent that Stephanie's musical interests would lead her into R&B. She
took the stage as a lead blues woman fronting the nine-piece "Biggs
Band" and built a deep repertoire of blues and R&B classics. In the
mid-90s Stephanie left the band and entered Boston's singer/songwriter
circuit as a solo artist. She has since recorded and/or performed with
artists such as Ellis Paul, Willy Porter, Greg Greenway, Kevin So, Chris
Rosser, Tom Kimmel, Tom Prasada-Rao, Jimmy LaFave, Slaid Cleaves,
Christopher Williams, Rachel Bissex, Eric Schwartz, etc. (several of
whom will be appearing here in the area over the next month or so - see
below).

In May 1999, Stephanie released a live CD entitled "Live at the Prodigal
Son" which received radio play across the US. In May 2000, she had the
distinct honor of performing on the Main Stage at the Kerrville Folk
Festival (in Kerrville, TX) as a New Folk Finalist. On October 9, 2001,
she released a new studio album entitled "Fireworks in March." It is a
keeper.

Guess it would be helpful if we told you when this show is supposed to
happen. That will be Saturday, February 1, 2003 at 8:00 p.m.

Rosser, Tom P-R, Annie Lalley and Joe Ebel, and Don Porterfield all on
the same stage, followed the next night by Pierce Pettis and the 21st by
Jimmy Landry. You cannot go wrong with ANY of these folks, and there
are another 20 or so artists who'll perform there on the other nights in
any given month. Check it out, and tell David we said "hi" if we're not
there that night. See the entire Six String calendar at
<http://www.sixstringcafe.com/index_nn4.html> for dates and times.
(Food's great here too, AND you can wash it down with a Harp's or Bass
or Red Hook or something similar.)

And if you like your music more on the twangy side, check out
<http://www.guitartown.org/calend.htm> for the
Guitartown calendar - tons of shows too numerous to mention here.
