I'm pleased to announce that JP Jones' "Back to Jerusalem" is now available
by request to radio programmers, music reviewers and interested folks who
book venues.
A secular disc with a spiritual goal, "Back to Jerusalem" is not religious
music, but should appeal to folks who like their folk with an aggressive,
not always acoustic and sometimes allegorical edge.
Hugh Blumenfeld wrote these liner notes:
"For JP Jones, the true lover is an incendiary radical, and the faithful
artist is a prophet standing against whoever or whatever enslaves the human
spirit. Like Leonard Cohen's "The Future," "Back to Jerusalem" has an epic
sweep, both musically and lyrically, shot through with a satirical wit and
unexpected tenderness. And though the poet's lone voice sometimes cracks,
sometimes wavers, his vision never does."
JP's an ex-seminarian who released a self-titled album on CBS'
Columbia/Windfall label way back in 1973. He and I are brothers. In the
early 80's we played together in a New York City-based folk/rock band
called John Train (in honor of the Phil Ochs pseudonym). We started Vision
Company about 10 years ago, mostly as a vehicle for JP's songwriting. "Back
to Jerusalem" will be JP's seventh release to date and our fifth in the
last 36 months.
Guest musicians this time out include Signature Sounds recording artist
Maria Sangiolo, Folks Together violinist Vinnie Pasternak, and Swami
Shivananda Sarasvati who contributes vocal effects and percussion tracks.
Additional musical contributors include singers Barb Schloff Arrieta and
Adele Tarkowski, Mike Barrett on electric guitar, Lloyd Salisbury on nylon
string guitar, electric guitar and trumpet, Tom Ratelle on tenor and
baritone sax, Ed Laperle on bass, Kurt Meyer on fretless bass, Leroy White
on hand drum and Steve Tavares on numerous percussion instruments.
Like most DIYers, we're still looking for a distribution deal, but we do
expect to have CDs for sale on intenet music store sites like CDNow,
Amazon.com and folkweb within the next 30 days. In the meantime folks
who'd like more information can contact me or check out JP's website at the
address following my signature.
Thanks to all for your attention and interest.
Sincerely,
-andy
