Hi Tom and Alan. Thanks for this forum.

Ashes by JP Jones
(11 original songs, total running time 50:54) Featuring a clean and
powerful production, JP Jones' October 1999 Ashes release showcases a
spiritual soul and a variety of musical styles ranging from alternative pop
to solo acoustic story songs. Backed by some of the best acoustic musicians
in Southern New England, Jones weaves intense, haunting tales of trial and
redemption. Ashes is a fine and fully-realized disc from a mature
songwriter and former seminarian who's first album was released on the
Columbia/Windfall label in 1973.

Credits:
JP Jones: vocals, acoustic rhythm and electric lead guitars, keyboards,
percussion

Everett Brown: accordion, mandola
Mike Fishman: banjo
Ed Laperle: bass
Kurt Meyer: stand up bass, fretless bass
Vinnie Pasternak: violin, viola, electric rhythm guitar
Steve Tavares: claves, congas, dumbek, djembe, etc.
Drew Wanacht: drums

Produced by JP Jones

Reviews:
"Jones comes from a Bob Dylan/Phil Ochs tradition...
The album is produced very acoustically. There's nothing fancy
here: bass, drums, vocals, harp and guitar, all of which were
recorded live, giving the album a very spontaneous touch from
which Jones' music profits enormously...Close your eyes and every
now and then you feel as if transported back to the heydays of
the folk revival of the '60s...these songs are very well written
and Jones has more than just something to say. "

"Once again, JP Jones proves that he is one of the finest songwriters
of this era. His insight digs deeper and his spirituality shines
brighter with each consecutive album he creates. His music is not a
passive experience. It's a total immersion into another dimension of
sensory awakening. There is no other sound quite like JP Jones. A
modern-day visionary, Jones has created a sound that will one day
inspire others to carry on and mold the face of independent expression."

"This project flashes a million personal incendiary images at once. If this
were breakfast, it would be the Royal Empress Hotel Grand Slam Buffet.
Based on this release, I question the need for major label CDs altogether."
