MARY ANN ROSSONI
Wall Street Music
DOWNCITY
Release Date: Nov 5, 2000
-----
Perspective, the singer-songwriter's fingerprint, drives great songwriting.
Mary Ann Rossoni's perspective on her second full-length release, Downcity,
balances exploration and insight, life lived and life's lessons. The
fourteen folk-rock tracks wind through Rossoni's world: a rich, revealing,
and often bittersweet emotional landscape Americans call home.
This Providence native has polished her writing skills throughout her twelve
year career; the songs on Downcity, her first album under the Wall Street
Music label, prove to be her most accomplished. "Safe Zone (Sidewalk
Girls)," complete with bagpipes and full band accompaniment, depicts the
wild side of Providence's nightlife. "Lately's" soft brushstrokes highlight
her lyrical singing and sensitive strumming, while the driving beat of
"Conversations" has an early Springsteen feel.
Newcomers, will find Downcity instrumentally rich, while fans familiar with
her previous album Half Slips and Garters (which received significant
recognition from People Magazine, Performing Songwriter, and Dirty Linen)
will certainly note the musical strides taken between the projects.
Mary Ann's live performances have made her a regional hit. She continues to
win over audiences in venues ranging from local coffeehouses to national
arenas. Also, her charitable conscience in arranging and organizing support
for many worthwhile causes has further touched audiences.
