Eric Folkerth
Award winning songwriter Eric Folkerth announces his debut CD, “Songs
for the Time Being,” on the Selfish Giant Records label. The
Dallas-based singer-songwriter will tour regionally, in support of the
release, this Fall and Spring. Eric is an accomplished songwriter who
finds metaphors in all sorts of life experiences: everything from
Dinosaurs and Bungie Jumping, to the birth of his first child.
Audiences and critics alike say Eric is a spellbinding storyteller
through music.
Bob Ackerman, a Dallas singer-songwriter, says “Eric’s songs tell
stories the way a good movie does.”
Cary Pierce, formerly of the band Jackopierce, says “Eric’s songs have
that lullaby quality that reminds me of the stuff I grew up on.”
Eric’s song I Will Sing won Honorable Mention in the 9th Annual
Billboard Songwriter Contest. He is a favorite and regular performer at
coffee houses and venues in the Dallas area, and has played shows in
Austin, Waco, and Fayetteville, Arkansas. The regional tour for “Songs
for the Time Being” will include these cities, plus San Antonio and
Houston.
Songs for the Time Being was recorded at Phattman Communication Studios
(www.phattaudio.com)in Dallas, and was coproduced by the studio’s owner,
Clark Findley. An accomplished musician, and computer and technical
genius, Findley not only lent technical expertise to the project, but
also considerable musical talent as well.
Local Dallas musicians, Annie Benjamin and Beth Cahill, each of the
acclaimed folk group Chattervox appear on several tracks, and Rocky
Athas, a renown blues guitarist, and member of Black Oak Arkansas, adds
lead guitar to two songs.
While Eric’s solo live performances are typically acoustic, the CD
features rather extensive production. “It seems these songs have two
lives,” Eric says, “the recorded life and the live life. When I write
them, I envision the production already in place. But when I play live,
I find it hard to imagine anything but me and the guitar.”
In a unique move that seeks to tap the growing role of the Web, the CD
liner notes include an “online” link for each song. Following the
links, listeners can “click” to in depth comments from Eric about each
song. “I wanted to tell a lot about each song, but didn’t have the room
on the jacket. The Web-links give me the chance to do that.”
